Mary Rowlandson was a colonial American who was famously captured by Native Americans during King Philip's War in 1676. Rowlandson was held for nearly three months before being ransomed. In 1682, Rowlandson wrote a book on her experiences while she was being held captive. The book is one of the earliest and most famous works in the genre of captivity narratives.
